So this introvert has had kind of a hellish end-of-the-week:
--Thursday morning son graduation and awards ceremony, 2 hours of sitting in a crowd having my energy drained;
--Thursday night till late ( 1 AM) waiting with friend for tow truck to come take his car to the shop so I can then take friend home;
--Friday morning daughter graduation and awards, 2 more hours of sitting in a crowd having my energy drained;
Photo: let sleeping Greek dogs lie at the monastery of Osios Loukas
--Friday night son's baseball team plays a doubleheader, 4 hours of 13 rambunctious young adolescents on the bench while Dad attempts to keep the scorebook and act as a bench coach (how did I get roped into this?).
--Also, note to self for future post: baseball is like a Victorian novel, maybe like Dickens or Thackeray/seemingly endless, impossibly intricate, boring unless you get into it
--Tomorrow, own school graduation, two hours of siting in a crowd having my energy drained.
--And, of course, at work I am finalizing my grades and writing comments, which is, in a way, like having all my students there looking over my shoulder.
You might think, "How is that a hellish week? You got to applaud your children's accomplishments (and tomorrow your students') and catch up with a friend."
I know-- I feel vaguely guilty for being exhausted and depleted. But right now a hermitage in the desert sounds pretty good. I can't explain it; it's just an "I" thing, I guess.

Anyone interested in a review pitched at scholars of classics, follow this link for quite a civilized review of Stanley Lombardo's audiobooks of Homer, frequently flogged at this site. The Bryn Mawr Classical Review is the premium online book review journal for the classics profession and an endless source of amusement. Large numbers of scholarly books come out every day on the obscurest of topics, and BMCR attempts to cover them in as timely and complete a fashion as possible.
It's a fascinating view into one of the oldest-- and weirdest-- academic fields in the history of the human race.
I understand the guilt over the exhaustion. We've had a great last month - two fun trips, a good visit with my sister and her family, daughter's dance rehearsal week/recital - and I'd love a week totally to myself. It doesn't mean I don't love everyone; I'm just fried.
I hope you get a chance to rest and recoup.

Hi David,
Hope you'll get some good rest and alone time. I'm just home from the bi-annual studio stroll. I had a great time talking to people, but... too many people. I need to not see faces for awhile...
I get it.

Thanks, both of you, for the encouragement. It's nice to know I'm not the only introvert out there.
