Do I really have to wait a week?

D, I'm posting this here, since it doesn't directly involve your novel-in-progress. I am so glad, by the way, that you're writing and posting for us to read.

Your style-- the way you create your characters in a way that honors their foreign-ness and peculiarity, but without seeming opaque-- reminds me of the way Jeanette Winterson approaches her "historical" fiction. You might be interested in "The Passion" (partly about a soldier obsessed with Napoleon) or "Sexing the Cherry." She uses her fantastical settings as a platform for philosophizing, but the stories are important even without that.

Bona Fortuna!
