Final standings: BHL Division 2
05/24/2020
Alma, as expected, won the 2nd division for the third time in five years. They have lodged an application to be promoted to the top league, including a report of an attendance of 101,557 over 21 home games, including regular season, Cup, and friendlies, an average of 4,836. The average attendance in the BHL top league is 5,509, and Alma would be better than 2 teams in the loop this year: Meenesanne (4,401) and Lojren (4,799). Sichebach averaged 5,001 and Wrischer 5,337.
Drawing 100,000 fans a year is considered a minimum for a top league team. Meenesanne drew 83,319 in 19 home games. They are in considerable debt because of their signing of Zimrothian goalie Gareth Velnath for a 40,000 schilling transfer fee.
Alma's rink holds only about 6,000 maximum, while every top league team in the league has at least a 7,500 seat rink.
Lassefball, in their first year in the Second Division after a 18-year hiatus, drew only 679 fans per game. They will be replaced by Open Division Kanaal next year as they return from discipline over illegal use of players.
