It is again Eve of All Saints and Samhain, traditional Irish New Year, that moment of jumping from old to new.
Left: Hey kids, life is a labyrinth. Find your way through it.
It is time for a momentous post about my life as it is now.
But I don't much feel like momentousness. So I'm giving up the keyboard to Etwart, the South Cypriot Pygmy Hippopotamus, who isn't so interested in significance.
"Hello, everybody, it's so wonderful to be here.
"This year has been all to the good, all to the good. I did some traveling. I went to Greece and got kidnapped, or to be honest, got LEFT behind by a certain owner, and some teenage heroes decided to tie me up with their shoelaces and send the owner a ransom note.
"I was ransomed in the end for two oranges from the Argolid, so they say. I don't really know what the Argolid is, unless it is the top to Jason's ship.
"I have also been on TV this year, as an expert on ancient Greek bedtime stories. I went on with my friend Cinnabar and a certain owner, who kept asking me questions he knew the answers to, but I guess I was cuter to the children hearing the stories.
"You wouldn't have thought I was cute if you could smell my breath at the time. There was a Kimchee and Zivania Jamboree at the Cyprus Club the night before, and hoo wee, I was paying for it, believe me.
"I have spent most of the rest of the time jammed under dirty laundry, to tell you the truth. A certain owner has been spending a lot of time Doing Things lately, and he claims not to be able to find me after coming home exhausted after a long day. Do your laundry, Big Shot!
"But no complaints about owner's kids. They scritch me behind the ears quite a bit, just to hear me say Urff.
"Uh huh. A hippo likes to have his behind-the-ears well maintained.
"Anyway, I hope everyone had a wonderful Irish New Year, and that you went out and partied. Owner went to choir, like always. Yeah, He's "all" stuck in his "ways." Heh. But I hope some day he'll understand that every group of people and hippos too, all over the world, have their own time to start the new year, so if only we knew all the dates, we could have New Year's pretty much every month.
"Live every day as if it's new. That's my motto.
"This has been Etwart the South Cypriot Pygmy Hippopotamus.
"Thank you very much."
